Robert A. LaPlante

1925 - 2009

LIVERMORE FALLS — Robert A. LaPlante, 83, of Livermore Falls, died unexpectedly on Nov. 11 at his home in Livermore Falls.

He was born on Nov. 22, 1925, in Rumford, the son of Alphonse and Aldea (Michaud) LaPlante. He attended local schools but, in an effort to help his family, left to work in the paper mill.

He joined the Armed Forces and served in Korea, receiving the Army Commendation Medal. He was always very proud to be a veteran.

After service to his country he returned to work for International Paper as crane operator in the wood room until the time of his retirement on June 12, 1987.

He was a self-educated man who enjoyed carpentry and typing. His specialties were auto mechanics working for Chip Chapelle and playing jigs and reels on his fiddle. A favorite tune was the "Orange Blossom Special" with his whistle attached. Bob volunteered his musical talents along with Wally Tripp at many events and facilities in the surrounding area.

He met Madeline Dunfey and they married on Feb. 6, 1965, at St. Rose of Lima church in Jay.

He is survived by his wife, Madeline; three brothers, Wilfred and his wife, Suzie, Raoul and his wife, Marsha, and Emile and his wife, Caroline; three sisters, Gertrude, Olivette and Pauline; a brother-in-law, Ronnie Morris; two sisters-in-law, Hope Beverly Fournier and Theresa LaPlante; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Rene and Norman; and two sisters, Beatrice and Annette.
