Vt. woman charged in crash that killed Lewiston woman

LANCASTER, N.H. (AP) - A Vermont woman is facing negligent homicide charges stemming from an accident last summer on U.S. Route 2 in Randolph that killed her mother and daughter and a Maine woman.

Rachel Metivier

The Berlin Daily Sun says a Coos County grand jury indicted 41-year-old Diane Silsby of Lunenburg saying she was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the July 3 crash.

The crash killed Silsby's mother, 83-year-old Leona Dunn of Lancaster, and 15-year-old Nicole Silsby. Twenty-six-year-old Rachel Metivier of Lewiston, Maine, was killed in the other vehicle.

Diane Silsby is scheduled to be arraigned Dec. 7 in Superior Court.

It is ironic that someone

It is ironic that someone posted exactly what I was thinking when I read this story. I was thinking OMG that poor woman must be in agony over what she did...Boy if that were me I would not be able to stand the guilt and would kill myself...Now that does not mean that my feelings and thoughts are what she should do...and I am NOT saying she should do it but I cant imagine what she must be feeling or thinking. Everybody has times in their life when they do things and think after the fact they wished they had not done them. Most of these "lack of judgement" times have no lasting or hurtful outcome...they are usually harmless to others. But sometimes there is a catastrophic ending in which a strangers family is effected. It really does suck but the truth is there are 2 familys that are greiving here....one has lost a mom, sister, aunt, daughter...etc. And another one is about to loose theres.
I wish there were a way for this woman to teach people who drink and drive about the dangers of it...sometimes people learn best when high emotions are involved. I am very sorry a Beautiful woman (and her mom and child) lost her life...there is NO EXCUSE and no reason for this to have happened but hopefully someone somewhere will learn from this and not drink and drive. I pray for BOTH families to somehow find a place in there hearts to find peace.

Mainer2, you are wrong in

Mainer2, you are wrong in one regard. This could not be my family, because I don't drink and drive. On the rare occasion that I have a drink, I do it at home. That is the difference. To castigate the posters here for saying what they have, and to conclude that they could be the ones responsible for the death of another assumes that all of them would take the risk of drinking and driving. You want others to think about how their comments hurt others, but your assumption that they would indulge in the same kind of conduct as your friend did, is just as offensive.

Mainer 2, you still don't

Mainer 2, you still don't get what I am saying. I am not saying for her to blow her head off, I am saying if I - ME- Chippy - got behind the wheel drunk and did what she did - that I-ME- Chippy, would not be able to live with myself the guilt would be overbearing.

I understand everything you

I understand everything you are all saying, but for you to say she should blow her head off, thats a little much...she also leaves a husband and a son behind as well if she should go to jail, i know what you are going to say ....she will see them and this other family won't see there loved one, i get that.I just know her and her whole family and trust me this is eating her up in side. I hear you when u say that other young lady is bright , and trust me i feel bad for her family as well , but you don't know Diana either.I'm not out for people to hate me but I can see it from both sides of the family, everyone has lost something very near and dear to them, and I will pray for both sides of the family.Once again I'm not out to hurt people's feelings cuz thats the last thing i want to do.

Mainer2...I find it

Mainer2...I find it offensive that you can't comprehend what DR and Chippy are talking about. Have you been drinking? Chippy was saying how they would feel if it the committed this offense and DR is right. Drunks most always survive and the victims familys are left to pick up the pieces. People need to accept responsibility for their actions. She made the choice to drink and drive and hope she spends a looong time in jail!

Mainer 2, you are not

Mainer 2, you are not getting what I am saying. I would feel so guilty if I did this, that I would have committed suicide. I wouldn't be alble to live with myself.

to chippy and DR I find what

to chippy and DR
I find what your writing very offensive, what would be going through your mind if this would have happened in your family? It's gut wrenching enough for her to live with this without her having to deal with people like you. So just keep in mind THIS could happen to you and your family. I know this family THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!

If I was this woman who

If I was this woman who drove drunk and did this, I would have already blown my head off.

Why is it that the drunks so

Why is it that the drunks so often survive the crash that kills innocent people?
I hope this woman enjoyed her alcohol, since her mother, daughter, and another woman paid for it with their lives. Silsby should be jailed for the rest of her life as a warning to others, and to keep her off the streets permanently.
