MEXICO — The Mexico Police Explorers, a youth group sponsored by the local Police Department, will launch its third annual Christmas tree and wreath sale the day after Thanksgiving.
In the past, funds raised benefited various projects and equipment the youths need for their club. This year, all funds raised will go to help pay tuition to the youth Criminal Justice Academy in Augusta for local members, Mexico police Sgt. Roy Hodsdon said.
The Christmas trees were grown in Mars Hill. About 200 will be available, more than the past two years because they have always been sold out a couple of weeks before Christmas, Hodsdon said.
Trees from 3 feet to more than 12 feet tall, costing from $12 to $45, will be offered. Also, the Explorers will offer 50 traditionally-sized wreaths. Some will be decorated by the youth and priced at $10. Undecorated wreaths will sell for $8.
The evergreens will be sold from the Mexico Police Department's ATV trailer at the gazebo at the rear of the Mexico Fire Department. Hours are 2:30 p.m. to 7 or 8 p.m. on weekdays, and 8 a.m. to 7 or 8 p.m. on weekends.
Hodsdon said the group is considering the sale of hot beverages, such as cocoa and coffee, and baked goods.
