A brief history of the

A brief history of the Christmas Tree:

In the 7th century a monk from Crediton, Devonshire, went to Germany to teach the Word of God. Legend has it that he used the triangular shape of the Fir Tree to describe the Holy Trinity of God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The converted people began to revere the Fir tree as God's Tree, as they had previously revered the Oak. By the 12th century it was being hung, upside-down, from ceilings at Christmas time in Central Europe, as a symbol of Christianity.

The first decorated tree was at Riga in Latvia, in 1510. In the early 16th century, Martin Luther is said to have decorated a small Christmas Tree with candles, to show his children how the stars twinkled through the dark night.

Where in that text does it ever refer to it as a holiday tree? Oh, it doesn't, the term holiday tree was invented about 10 years ago after about 1,300 years of calling it a Christmas tree so the people we let immigrate to our country and live off of our social services wouldn't be offended when we put one up for about 2 weeks a year. By the way, has anyone ever even asked these people if calling it a Christmas Tree offends them?

Well, Jeff, apparently you

Well, Jeff, apparently you flunked history. While everything you've written is true, taken straight from Wikipedia, you either failed to see, or deliberately ignored, all the references of holiday trees in ancient Rome and before that the Druids of England. But hey, why let a few facts taint your argument.

How is it NOT a Christmas

How is it NOT a Christmas tree? What other "Holidays" use a decorative "tree" as a symbol?

Wgme 13 has a poll running

Wgme 13 has a poll running this morning on whether their Monument Sq. tree should be a Christmas or Holiday tree. Over 96% of responders chose Christmas, and less than 4% chose Holiday. It's Christmas, therefore, it's a Christmas tree. Don't like Christmas? Then don't celebrate it

It is a CHRISTMAS tree. It

It is a CHRISTMAS tree. It is the CHRISTMAS season. We go to CHRISTMAS parties. If it weren't for CHRISTMAS, we wouldn't have the holidays in the first place. Not rocket science here, folks. If we take Christmas out, what do we have? A holiday season? But what is the holiday? Will we call it "The Holiday Holiday"? Enough of the majority having to cave to the minority to be "politically correct". Christmas is a Christian Holiday. To prohibit people from being able to celebrate CHRISTMAS amounts to religious persecution. The very thing this country was founded for to escape from. We are being persecuted for our beliefs. Rise, all ye Christians. Stand up for your beliefs. Stand against the oppression of political correctness. Stand and regain our freedoms. Bring this country back to it's freedom from religious persecution. The time is now to shed the bonds of political correctness. Arise!

Christmas Tree. It's a flipping Christmas tree. There are no other holidays that use a decorated tree in their celebrations. Shall we call them Holiday Menorah's now too?

SJ don't cheapen the holiday

SJ don't cheapen the holiday by changing the name. Keep Christ in Christmas! It is in fact a Christmas tree, not a xmas, kwanza, haunakah or any other kind of tree. Merry Christmas to all and to all a goodnight!

That's exactly what you suggested, Moe, and I don't care for it one bit. I can take your childish insults, but when you bring in family that's intolerable. I demand an apology ASAP, to me and my niece!!

Let's see if the right wing wackos are going to chime in that it must be a CHRISTMAS tree, not a HOLIDAY tree.
