A-L Sports Hall of Fame announces hoop tournament

AUBURN - Area high school basketball fans are encouraged to mark their calendars for Friday, Nov. 27 and Saturday, Nov. 28, when the second-annual Auburn-Lewiston Sports Hall of Fame Tip-Off Classic will unfold at Edward Little High School.

A full schedule of five high school preseason games is scheduled each day. Last year's tournament featured Tom Knight of Dirigo High School, now playing for Notre Dame, and the Eastern Class A champion Edward Little boys. This year's action will feature both the Lewiston and EL boys' and girls' squads as alumni teams from both schools.

The schedule is as follows:

Friday, Nov. 27

Lewiston boys vs. Westbrook, 2 p.m.

Lewiston alumni girls vs. EL, 3:30 p.m.

Lewiston girls vs. Mountain Valley, 5 p.m.

EL boys vs. Mountain Valley, 6:30 p.m.

EL girls vs. Leavitt, 8 p.m.

Saturday, Nov. 28

Lewiston girls vs. Leavitt, 2 p.m.

Lewiston alumni boys vs. EL, 3:30 p.m.

EL girls vs. Mountain Valley, 5 p.m.

Lewiston boys vs. Mountain Valley, 6:30 p.m.

EL boys vs. Westbrook, 8 p.m.

Admission charges are $5 for adults and $3 students per day.

AUGUSTA - Morse High School will host the 2009 Turkey Tip-Off on Friday, Nov. 27 at Augusta Civic Center. The girls' basketball tournament features defending Class C champion Jay along with local entries Dirigo and Poland.

Camden Hills vs. Westbrook, noon

Scarborough vs. Messalonskee, 1:45 p.m.

Lawrence vs. Jay, 3 p.m.

Dirigo vs. Morse, 4:30 p.m.

Sanford vs. Winslow, 6 p.m.

Morse vs. Thornton, 7:30 p.m.

Admission is $4 for adults and $2 for students and seniors.

Winthrop Area YMCA Ski Program

WINTHROP - Winthrop Area YMCA will run a bus to Lost Valley on Friday nights in January. You may purchase a ticket for two hours of skiing or sign up for ski lessons. The YMCA must have 25 people who want to ride the bus in order to make the program work. Deadline for registration is Dec. 15.
