George Forman
1931-2009
INDUSTRY — George M. "Ziggy" Forman, 78, of Industry, and formerly of Mullica, N.J., passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, Nov. 19, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Mullica, N.J., and was a lifelong resident until moving to Industry in 1994. After graduating from Hammonton High School, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Upon returning from service, he played baseball for the Baltimore Orioles.
He then went and worked with his father developing Forman's Garage-Forman's Harley Davidson Motorcycle Dealership, and Forman's Bus Company in Elwood, N.J.
He enjoyed hunting in the woods of Maine, and attending car shows with his good friend John Worth. He was member of M.B. Taylor Lodge 141, Hammonton, N.J., Northern Lites Snowmobile Club in Maine, DownEast Street Rods, Country Classics Car Club, Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA), Maine Region, The National Corvette Restorers Society, New England Chapter, and the Solid Axle Corvette Club. He achieved the NCRS Duntov Award, an AACA First Senior Award, Bloomington Gold Certificate, A Vette Fest Gold Spinner Award, a Triple Crown Award, and the prestigious AACA Louis Chevrolet Memorial Award for his 1954 Corvette.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthia; his sons, Glen (Janet) of Sweetwater, N.J., George Jr. (Linda) of Enoree, S.C., Kirk of Maryland, and Scott of Sewell, N.J.; stepchildren, Lisa (Michael) Jiampetti of Egg Harbor City, N.J., and Jason (Kristy) Guerrera of Vineland, N.J.; 13 grandchildren, Dianna (Brian) Hess of Tennessee, Christopher and Brett of South Carolina, George III, Jeremy, Michael, Tracy (Mark) Santoro, Cherie (Michael) Pullia, Ryan, Michael, Matthew, Jason and Jadon of New Jersey; and seven great-grandchildren.
George was predeceased by his parents, Mary and George P. Forman; and his daughter, Debbi Johns.
