Man gets four months for furnishing illegal drugs
FARMINGTON — A Madrid Township man was sentenced Friday in Franklin County Superior Court to two years with all but four months suspended for furnishing illegal drugs.
In an agreement with the state, Jason Wing, 33, will also serve 90 days for aggravated trafficking of illegal drugs at the same time as his other sentence. Each conviction carries a mandatory $400 fine, and he will be on probation for two years.
He also admitted to criminal forfeiture of property connected with the charges. The convictions stem from a search of his Reed Mills Road home on Nov. 7, 2008, when police found evidence of cocaine and marijuana trafficking, Assistant District Attorney James Andrews told the court. A plastic container with a white powder residue was found along with plastic sandwich bags and a box of baking soda. State Trooper Mathew Casavant would have testified, if the case had gone to trial, that baking soda is often used with cocaine to increase the quantity of drug, Andrews said.
Police also found ledgers with names and amounts. One ledger was titled "smoke," a name often used for a marijuana ledger, he said. More than 40 grams of marijuana was found during the search and 1.5 grams of cocaine.
Wing's father, Jeffrey Wing, was also sentenced Friday in Franklin County Superior Court on drug charges.
