RAAPA will present 'A Musical Christmas Card'
RUMFORD — On Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 5-6, Muskie Auditorium will be transformed into a winter wonderland for the Rumford Association for the Advancement of Performing Arts' 41st "A Musical Christmas Card" program.
After an absence of seven years, Judith Kuhn will return to direct the chorus with Gail Dorr as piano accompanist. Featured will be a variety of Christmas songs and dance numbers presented in four separate acts. Veteran scene designer Wayne Landry has created the sets, which will serve as the background for the four scenes. Each one depicts a Christmas event: decorating the family tree, an outdoor snowy afternoon, a holiday party and the nativity.
Highlights of the show will include a troupe of dancers — Amy Mahar, Deb Brown, Christine Murphy, Cindy Bohren, Doreen Jones and Tracy Gauvin — who will perform during "Boogie Woogie Santa." Connie Porter is their director and choreographer.
Gail Parent will offer the children's story, and there will be the usual audience sing-along. The "live" nativity will close the show with members of the community participating, including former resident Aaron Venskus and his wife as Joseph and Mary. Angela Oliver will provide the narration for the nativity.
Several of the songs will include soloists: "Maine Christmas Song," Jeannine Murray; "Jingle Bells," Ken Murray; "Winder Wonderland," Donna Gilbert; "Silent Night," Jim Robertson; "No Room," Steve Borstelmann and Kelly Harvell; and "Mary Sang Alleluia," Elaine Michaud. Signing for the hearing-impaired will be Alicia Hagen. Also performing will be a women's trio including Jan Bordeau, Elaine Michaud and Donna Gilbert who will perform during "Jingle Bells."
Production staff includes Anita Murphy, manager; Brandon Archibald, sound technician; Connie Venskus, wardrobe manager; Dee Holman and Mary Pulsifer, tickets; Michelle Larsen, stage manager; Steve Borstelmann and Sara Perry, publicity.
Saturday's performance will begin at 7 p.m., Sunday's at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10, $8 for those under 12 and over 65. Tickets are available at Bartash, Port-to-Port and Hannaford in Rumford, at Log Cabin Craftworks in Dixfield, at Larsen's Electric in Mexico and from any chorus member.
