Lewiston resident receives scholarship

SWAMPSCOTT, Mass. — In December, The Caleb Group, a nonprofit organization that provides resident services to communities throughout New England, was given additional funding for their scholarship program. The scholarship amounts, ranging from $500 to $1,000, were to be used in an educational program of the resident’s choice in order to achieve personal career goals.

Susan Kiralis, a teen mother and resident of River Valley Village in Lewiston, was awarded $1,000 to pursue a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Andover College. She received her high school diploma and is a certified Apple computer technician. Kiralis remains active in her community by working as a resident technician at her local church and tutoring younger students at the Lewiston Public Library.

She said that her ultimate goal is to “keep parenting her child, move on to a higher education institution and find a decent job.”

All scholarship donations go directly to scholarship recipients to assist in paying for the rising cost of college tuition, fees, housing or books. Those interested in making a donation to assist a prospective college student in the community, may send a check payable to The Caleb Foundation, 491 Humphrey St., Swampscott, MA 01907.
