CARRABASSETT VALLEY — Two selectmen are being challenged for one of their seats when Carrabassett Valley voters head to the polls to elect officers Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the town office.
The town's annual meeting will reconvene to discuss other articles at 7:30 p.m. at the Outdoor Center, Town Clerk Wendy Russell said.
Board of Selectmen Chairman Robert Luce and Selectman Lloyd Cutler are seeking re-election for another three-year term. Businessman Richard Rose is also seeking one of the two open positions, she said.
In other elections, two School Committee members, Jane Luce and Jennifer McCormack are seeking re-election for another three-year term. Sanitary District Trustees Carl Demshar and Neal Trask are also running unopposed for re-election to their three-year seats.
During the evening meeting, voters will consider more than 50 articles on the town warrant to fund town expenses and other items.
Voters will be asked to spend $25,000 to rebuild a 10-year-old firetruck, “Multi-One.” The work is expected to extend the life of the truck for another 10 years.
They will also be asked to spend up to $6,000 for engineering services to complete the design and environmental permitting needed for a proposed multipurpose recreational bridge to be built over the Carrabassett River adjacent to the airport property. The funds coming from the Recreation Endowment Fund to match funding from the J.V. Wing Snowmobile Club.
The article also asks voters to accept landowner easements and to accept donations and apply for grant funding for the project.
This article covers the design and permits needed for the project. Voters may later be asked to provide matching funds for construction of the bridge.
Voters will also be asked to approve a town shoreland zoning ordinance.
