AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — Petitions filed by legislative candidates in Augusta are setting the stage for highly competitive House and Senate races this fall.
Democratic and Republican candidates have filed nominating petitions in each of the 35 state Senate Districts, so unless some drop out there will be contests in every district.
In the House, Republicans are saying they've got candidates in 150 of the 151 districts — the only exception being veteran Democratic Rep. John Martin's district in Aroostook County.
Democrats say they've got candidates in 149 districts.
