LEWISTON — Joseph "Moose" D. Long, 53, of Walker Avenue, Lewiston died at his home on Sunday, April 18, with his family by his side.

He was born in Lewiston, April 23, 1956, the son of Gerard and Cecile (Rossignol) Long.

He worked for many years as a fleet truck mechanic and later opened Moose's Kitchen in Lewiston, a well-known BBQ and outdoor catering service famous for its BBQ chicken.

He served as president for the Carlton Club for 30 years, where he made numerous friends. He had a passion for hunting, fishing, cooking and NASCAR. He loved to go up north on hunting trips with his family and friends and always went camping with them on Memorial Day weekend in West Forks.

Moose enjoyed spending time with and was very close to his entire family. He loved the once a year long family cookout reunions.

He was a very generous and compassionate person who donated a lot of his time and food to raise money for charities especially for those who needed it most.

He will always be missed by his entire family and by his numerous close friends.

He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy (Chamberlain) Long, whom he married on June 3, 1979; his son, Matthew Long of Auburn; his daughter, Mallory Long of Lewiston; his father, Gerard Long of Lisbon; his sister, Doris Williams of New York; his brothers, Bob of Lewiston, Norm and his wife, Dolly, of Lewiston, Brian and his wife, Kathy, of Sabattus, Jim and his wife, Jackie, of Turner and John and his wife, Kim, of Scarborough; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his mother, Cecile; and his sister, Geraldine Whitmore.

He also had a great love for his truck and for his boat The Sea Chicken II.
