AUGUSTA – Norman J. Gagne, 76, of Mount Vernon Place, died April 1, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, after a brief illness.

He was born in Augusta, on Aug. 17, 1929, to Ferdinand Gagne and Odile (Ouellette) Gagne. Norm was educated in Augusta schools. He served honorably in the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1953, which included the Korean Conflict.

Prior to his retirement in 1987, he was employed by the Veterans Administration at Togus for 33 years.

He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, a lifetime member of Le Club Calumet and a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge of Augusta.

Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Pauline (Robichaud) Gagne of Augusta, whom he married on May 30, 1955; one daughter, Roseanne Swails and her husband, Ernie, of Augusta; two sons, Kenneth Gagne of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Patrick Gagne and his wife, Sherry, of Rockland; four grandsons, Eric Swails of Augusta, Pvt. Jason Swails and his wife, Kendra, stationed in Germany, and Gregory Gagne and Mitchell Gagne, both of Rockland; one granddaughter, Annie Gagne, of Rockland; and several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Sam Gagne and Albert Gagne; and five sisters, Louise Lessard, Del Rosa Bedard, Muriel Gagne, Blanche Gagnon and Florence Pepin.

The family would like to express a sincere “Thank You” to the doctors and nurses at MaineGeneral Medical Center, especially Dr. Schiff-Slater.
