Norway crash injures two drivers

NORWAY — Two drivers were injured Wednesday night in a rear-end collision at a construction site near Hannaford supermarket on Route 26.

A teenage boy from Otisfield suffered a concussion in the crash and was taken to Stephens Memorial Hospital, Patrolman Rob Federico Jr. said Thursday night. The boy’s name was not being released due to his age, he said.

Also injured was 25-year-old Albert Hewins of Leeds, who was operating a truck owned by R C & Son Paving Co. of Lewiston, the officer said. Hewins suffered an injury to his elbow and was treated at the scene.

Hewins was headed north and stopped for a highway flagger when the teen’s 1984 Volvo station wagon hit the back of the 2000 Ford construction truck, Federico said. He said the teen didn’t notice the truck was stopped in traffic.

Both drivers were alone and were wearing seat belts, he said.

The truck had a damaged bumper; the station wagon was demolished.

PACE Ambulance and Norway Fire Department assisted Federico, along with Norway police Sgt. James Ventresca.
