Norway man indicted on rape charges

PARIS — A grand jury has indicted a 21-year-old Norway man on charges of sexually assaulting a teenage girl.

Jacob James Goddard of Cottage Street is charged with four counts of gross sexual assault. It is alleged that he forced the girl to engage in a sexual act with him in April and May 2008 in Waterford.

According to the Sun Journal archives, Goddard, formerly of Mill Hill Road in Waterford, was arrested in May 2008. At that time, he was 19 years old and accused of raping a 15-year-old girl. Deputy William Nelson of the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office said at the time that the girl was within the age of consent, but that the acts were not consensual.

Each charge of gross sexual assault is punishable by up to 30 years in prison.
