PORTLAND – Portland Ovations will present violinist Stefan Jackiw in recital at 7:30, Thursday, April 8, at Merrill Auditorium. Jackiw, one of his generation’s most significant artists, will play an all Brahms program with pianist Max Levinson.
Jackiw has played with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Toronto Symphony, the Cincinnati Symphony and the Russian National Orchestra, all within the last year. He also recently released his debut album of Brahms Sonatas on the Sony Classical label in Asia. He’s been a notable performer on the world stage since he was 14, and now at age 24 he is gaining acclaim everywhere he plays.
Jackiw will play three Brahms Sonatas at the recital: Sonata No. 1 in G Major, Op. 78, Sonata No. 2 in A Major, Op. 100 and Sonata No. 3 in D minor, Op. 108. The evening is sure to delight both Brahms fans and anyone who just loves good music.
In addition to the performance, Ovations Offstage is offering a free pre-performance lecture to discuss the dynamic Brahms selections being presented by Jackiw. Ovations’ Board Member, David Nicklas, will give the lecture from the perspective of an avid lover of classical music. The lecture is from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Merrill Auditorium Green Room on Thursday, April 8, immediately preceding the recital. Ovations Offstage is the education and outreach program at Portland Ovations which strives to provide a new level of insight into the artists and presentations that Ovations brings to Portland each season. Offstage’s pre-performance lectures are a great way to gain a new level of appreciation and understanding of the performance.
Tickets for Stefan Jackiw are $32 for the general public, $28 for Ovations’ Members/subscribers and $10 for students. Tickets can be purchased at PortTix, the Merrill Auditorium box office; by phone at 842-0800; or online at www.portlandovations.org.
