LEWISTON – “Nutrition Tips for Cancer Patients: Managing Treatment-Related Weight Gain” will be the topic of discussion at the Monday, July 9, meeting of the Cancer Wellness and Support Group at Central Maine Medical Center.

Oncology dietitian Ashley Whalen will discuss the key elements to weight loss or weight maintenance for cancer patients.

Many cancer patients gain weight during treatment as a result of certain medications, hormone therapy or chemotherapy.

Whalen’s presentation will point out the key ingredients of healthy eating.

A healthy treat will be prepared at the close of discussion.

The program is jointly sponsored by the Central Maine Comprehensive Cancer Center’s “Wellness for Life” program and the Lance Armstrong Foundation, inspiring and empowering people affected by cancer.

The program will be offered from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in chairmen’s rooms A and B in the lower level of the 12 High Street Medical Office Building.

The group is open to people living with cancer, as well as their spouses/partners, family members and caregivers. There is no fee for participation.
