Obituary mix-up declares wrong woman deceased

BANGOR (AP) – A funeral home paperwork mix-up has led to the wrong person being declared dead in a newspaper obituary.

Anne E. Hathaway, who’s 92, saw her own obituary this week in the Bangor Daily News. The Orono woman says all of the information was accurate – except for the part about being dead.

It turns out that Ann Hathaway did die, but the deceased woman was from Bangor. The funeral home had files on both women and delivered the wrong one to the newspaper.

At 92, Anne E. Hathaway says she’s doing fine, and she has a sense of humor about the mistake. She says she had her hair done this week, and it looks better than it did when her obituary appeared in the newspaper.
