OXFORD — A high-speed crash on Route 26 left four people injured Tuesday afternoon, Oxford police said.

A 17-year old Otisfield man driving north in a 2005 Mazda attempted to turn left onto Skeetfield Road, police officer Zane Loper said. The teen’s car struck a 2007 Volkswagen driven south by Nicolas Cyr, 24, of Millinocket.

The impact forced both cars into the southbound lane, where they came inches from striking a car stopped at the Skeetfield Road intersection.

The driver of the Mazda and his front-seat passenger, Richard Peters, 57, of Toledo, Ohio, were checked by PACE emergency personnel and declined to be taken to the hospital. A backseat passenger, Jacob Wood, 23, was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston complaining of pain. His injuries are not believed to be serious, Oxford police Lt. Mike Ward said.
