Officer: Livermore barking dog complaints unsubstantiated

LIVERMORE — Selectpersons were told Monday night that complaints of barking beagles at a kennel on Hathaway Hill Road are unsubstantiated.

Animal Control Officer Richard Burton said he has received numerous complaints about the beagles baying at Tom Wilson’s licensed kennel, Baldwin Hill Beagles at 350 Hathaway Hill Road.

Burton said he visited and called Wilson several times regarding complaints from a neighbor, Dennis Sol. During one visit he heard barking for a few seconds, but most of the noise came from a dog that is not part of the kennel, he said.

Burton sent Sol’s wife a letter Tuesday asking for common sense.

“I need you and your husband to understand that outside of a fine, if ordered by a judge, there is nothing else that can be done for barking dogs,” Burton wrote. “They will not be seized or euthanized. I can not force Wilson to do anything to his dogs to control the alleged barking. All I can do is give him a ticket, that is it. The dogs are in perfect health and are not dangerous dogs.”

Burton suggested the Sols try to make peace with their neighbors.

New complaints will be investigated and handled appropriately, Burton said.
