Officials recognized for service

LISBON – The town recognized several people during the annual town meeting Monday night.

Recently retired Public Works Director George Ayer was presented a community service award for his 28 years of work for the town.

State Rep. Bob Berube, R-Lisbon, said the town has “honored many people over the years,” but one man had not been mentioned. “He’s served on the Planning Board, the Zoning Board of Appeals, selectman, Charter Commission, a town meeting moderator since 1988.”

Moderator J. Michael Huston interrupted when he realized he was that man.

“I’m going to have to rule you out of order, now that I know,” he told Berube.

He was given a standing ovation and applause.

Also recognized were three other former moderators who were present: Greg Bianconi, David Bowie and Berube.

Each voter was also given a button that read: “I attended Lisbon’s last annual town meeting on March 13, 2006.”
