Old Home Days set

WEST PARIS – The Old Home Days Committee has scheduled this year’s event for next weekend.

The celebration kicks off at 3 p.m. on Friday, June 2, with craft sales and pony rides on the town office grounds on Kingsbury Street.

There will also be an open house at the town library, a baked bean supper at the Historical Society at 5:30 p.m. with Elaine Emery presenting a program of “oldies.” The annual children’s parade steps off at 6 p.m.

Also Friday, the midway on Kingsbury Street will be open featuring games, children’s activities, food booths and entertainment for all ages. Beano will be played in the town office meeting room.

Saturday’s events start at 8 a.m. with the grand parade at 10 a.m. as the day’s main feature. The parade will organize on Briggs Street, march down Main Street to the village center where people can get a close look at the floats and other parade features.

Also Saturday, there will be a model train show at the Grange Hall, pony rides, a moon bounce, a motorcycle show and a lawnmower pull. A street dance and a grand fireworks display will conclude the night.

Sunday will feature a downhill soapbox derby race beginning at 11 a.m., a chicken barbecue dinner at noon, an old timers’ baseball game at 2:30 p.m. and activities at the midway on Kingsbury Street.

Running all weekend will be craft sales, beano, wagon rides, wood carving, pony rides and more.

The celebration will be centered around the annual West Paris High School alumni reunion and banquet, which will be held Saturday evening.
