Olive H. Umbro
1919 – 2010
RUMFORD — Olive H. Umbro, 90, died Tuesday, March 16, at the Rumford Community Home. She was a resident of Rumford.
She was born in Strong, Oct. 12, 1919, a daughter of Merton and Maude (Ranger) Hillier. She graduated from Strong High School, Class of 1936. Prior to her marriage, she worked at the Franklin Memorial Hospital in the housekeeping department and cared for her mother until her death. She assisted her husband at Umbro’s Tailor Shop.
She was a member of the Mexico Congregational Church, where she was active in Women’s Fellowship. She enjoyed quilting classes; and loved to crochet; her specialty were thread doilies. Her last projects included blankets for her great-grandchildren
She was married in Rumford, Aug. 9, 1969, to Vito Umbro, who died Oct. 24, 1979.
Survivors include two daughters, Miss Ann Marie Umbro of Farmington and Miss Teresa Umbro of Rumford; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Umbro of Limington; granddaughters, Stephanie Umbro of Standish, Becky Deshaies and husband, Tim, of Limington and Lisa Heisey and husband, Derek, of Berrien Springs, Mich.; grandsons, Joshua Umbro of Milford and Tony Umbro and wife, Julia, of Limington; great-grandchildren, Emma and Owen Heisey of Michigan, Megan and Allison Deshaies of Limington and Lucy Umbro of Limington; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband; a son, Vito III “Butch”; brother and sister-in-law, Rev Maxwell and Betty Welch; sisters, Gertrude Hillier and Ruby Ellsworth; and a nephew, Kenneth Welch.
