Omer F. Fortin


LEWISTON – Omer F. Fortin, 87, of Lewiston, died Saturday, April 29.

He was born in Auburn on Aug. 1, 1918, to William J. and Anna M. (Demers) Fortin. He graduated in 1935 from Roberts Business College and began a 50-year career with Pineland Lumber Co. Starting as office clerk to salesman/draftsman, to major stock holder until his retirement in 1986.

He freely gave his time to the community. He was the director, officer and president of Saints Peter & Paul Credit Union (now Community C.U.) for 11 consecutive years. He was a 50-year member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 106; serving on the Land and Building Trust, 4th Degree Faithful Navigator, honorary life member of the 4th Wallace Assembly No. 398, and served as honor guard for many years.

He enjoyed his hunting camp and outdoors.

For 18 years, he owned an outboard motor and hunting gear sales and service company as a hobby.

He is survived by his daughter, Suzette and husband, Roger Plourde, of Lewiston; a grandson, Patrick and his wife, Capella, and great-granddaughter ,Natalya, of Pearland, Texas; two brothers, Clement and wife, Doris, of Windham, and Edward and wife, Liane, of Auburn.

He was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, the former Mary Lou Sirois, in 2003; and two sisters, Therese and Christine.
