Although I am neutral about Les Otten’s gubernatorial candidacy, the Sun Journal front page article of March 11 about American Skiing and Otten concerns me. I found the article very one-sided.
Otten’s American Skiing was taken over by bondholders, restructured and/or sold off — a typical business practice. I believe all ski areas involved are still in operation and employing thousands.
Isn’t that better than the millions of dollars the state of Maine lost with its financial involvement in the ski areas at Evergreen Valley in Stoneham, Enchanted Mountain in Jackman, and Squaw Mountain in Greenville — losses paid by Maine taxpayers? Also, with no creation of ski employment at Evergreen Valley and Enchanted Mountain?
