PARIS — Longtime Oxford County Sheriff’s Department employee Joshua Wyman has been placed on paid administrative leave.

Sheriff Wayne Gallant said Friday that he was not sure when the leave started, but said it has been at least “several weeks.”

A spokesman for the Teamsters union, which represents the deputies, confirmed that timeframe but declined further comment.

Asked why Wyman was placed on leave, Gallant declined to comment, calling it a “personnel matter.”

Wyman, who is a detective with the Sheriff’s Department, is an Oxford Hills native. While earning a degree in criminology at the University of Southern Maine, Wyman was employed as a full-time officer with the Norway Police Department and later moved to a part-time position with the county department. When he graduated from college in 2005, he was hired as a full-time officer.

He has been a detective with the county’s Criminal Investigation Division since 2015.

Gallant said Wyman’s leave is open-ended, with no known return date.
