HARRISON – Town Manager Bradley Plante has given his resignation to the Board of Selectmen. His last day will be Sept. 17.
“I just need a break,” Plante said hours before Tuesday night's selectmen's meeting in which he briefly addressed the move that will take him to Tombstone, Ariz. He and his fiancée will help run the Tombstone Bordello Bed and Breakfast. The place used to be the watering hole for Doc Holliday and his common law wife “Big Nose” Kate.
The contract for Plante, who was hired three years ago, would have expired on June 30, 2011.
Plante said he has been in public service for almost 40 years beginning with serving in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. He earned a master's degree before working in politics in North Attleboro and later Rockland, Mass., where he served as town manager until 2007. He also served as a police officer and retired from active duty in the Air Force in 1993.
Plante said he hopes to do some writing and has promised his fiancée that he will not run out to the first city council meeting, once they settle in Arizona.
"I might join the historical commission or something,” he said.
