Parker L. Kinney


FARMINGTON – Parker L. Kinney, 70, of Jay, died Jan. 20, at Franklin Memorial Hospital.

He was born March 27, 1936, in Jay, a son of the late Leonard W. and Elinor C. (Parker) Kinney. He attended schools in Jay, Bath and Wilton and graduated from Jay High School, Class of 1955.

He served honorably in the U.S. Navy from September 1955 to September 1959, attaining the rank of E-4.

On Nov. 5, 1961, he married the former Janet Purington in North Jay. Over the years, he worked for I.P. Co., construction, sawmills and was a self-employed manufacturer of various wood products. For many years he served on the board of selectmen for the town of Jay.

He was a former member of the Jay Fire Department, the North Jay Sportsmen’s Club and was a lifetime member of the VFW. He enjoyed reading, woodworking, sports, talking, volunteering, nature, panning gold and especially his grandchildren. He loved going to his hobby shop with his niece, Leigh.

In addition to his wife of more than 45 years of Jay, he is survived by a son, Maurice Kinney of Milton, Vt.; two sisters, Donna Jerry, and her husband, Kenneth, of Jay and Brenda Cook of Lewiston; a brother, Neil Kinney, and his wife, Patricia, of North Jay; a grandson, Alan P. Dawes, serving in the U.S. Army; a granddaughter, Heather M. Dawes of Jay; an aunt, Ruth Robbins of Aroostook County; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Shannon Dawes in 1991.
