Patriots re-sign DB Gay


FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) – Randall Gay, an undrafted free agent defensive back who went from unknown to Super Bowl starter his rookie season, re-signed with the New England Patriots on Tuesday.

Gay, 23, was signed by the Patriots as an undrafted free agent out of Louisiana State in April 2004. He started nine games for the team as a rookie, including all three playoffs games. He finished with 38 tackles, two interceptions, six passes defensed and two fumble recoveries during his rookie year, then followed up last season with 11 tackles in five games. He was inactive for four games and placed on injured reserve on Nov. 15.

The team did not disclose terms of the agreement.
