Patriots scout takes college coaching job

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) – Frank Leonard, an NFL scout for the New England Patriots, was named Kansas State’s assistant coach for tight ends, coach Ron Prince announced Monday.

Leonard replaces James Jones, whose contract was not renewed, Prince said in a news release.

Prince also announced the promotion of Ricky Rahne from graduate assistant to assistant running backs coach.

From 2004 to 2006, Leonard scouted college and professional players and contributed to many of the Patriots’ player personnel decisions. Before that, he spent 10 seasons on the coaching staff at Richmond.

Rahne spent the 2005 season as the running backs coach at Cornell and 2004 as assistant defensive line coach at Holy Cross.

Prince also announced the hiring of Darren Honeycutt as assistant strength and conditioning coach, John Colbert as director of high school and junior college relations and Inge Jorgensen as the team’s research assistant.
