Paul F. O’Connell Sr.


BRUNSWICK – Paul Francis O’Connell Sr., 77, of Harbor Seal Lane, Harpswell, died Wednesday, April 26, at Mid Coast Hospital.

He was born in Lewiston Nov. 11, 1928, the son of William and Mary Graig O’Connell. Mr. O’Connell attended Lewiston High School and enlisted in the Navy serving during World War II. He then returned to Lewiston High School to finish his junior and senior years graduating in 1948.

In 1949, he married Gloria Jeannette Saucier.

From 1951 to 1971 he served in the United States Air Force, where he held the distinction of being the youngest 1st. Sgt. and 1st in his class at the NCO Academy.

After the Air Force, he moved to Maine, where he worked for the state of Maine Unemployment Office in Lewiston and Biddeford as well as serving as the office manager in Bath.

For 10 years, he owned and operated Chuck’s Superette, a mom and pop store in Lisbon Falls. He then worked as a post office window clerk in Woolwich and Bath retiring in 1994.

He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

In addition to his wife of Harpswell, he is survived by two sons, Paul O’Connell Jr. of Harpswell and Shawn O’Connell of Cumberland, R.I.; a daughter, Karen O’Connell of Newport, R.I.; two brothers, Craig O’Connell of Harpswell and Mert O’Connell of York; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
