Paulette “Polly” J. Marcotte

AUBURN – Paulette “Polly” Marcotte passed away Sunday, July 29, at Hospice House after many years of battling several illnesses.

She was born Paulette Joline Vachon, in Lewiston, on Aug. 26, 1932, the fourth of five children born to Arthur and Marie-Anne Vachon. She attended Lewiston schools and graduated from Lewiston High School.

She worked in a local shoe shop before marrying Marcel Marcotte in 1955. Mike and Polly had three children, and Polly stayed at home to care for the kids. After the kids were grown, she returned to work at Pathways, where she took great pleasure in sharing time with mentally challenged kids. She was a member of Holy Family parish, where she had been a Eucharistic minister and a CCD teacher.

She has always been considered, by those who know her, as an extremely loving, kindhearted and caring person who touched many lives. She had an unusual ability to always look on the bright side of things, and to put a positive spin on a negative situation. Her love of God and her belief that everything happens for a reason helped her through the many challenges that she experienced in her life. She made a significant impact on many people’s lives, including her three grandchildren, of whom she was extremely proud.

When her husband became ill with emphysema, she spent many years as his caregiver so that he could remain at home. She took care of all his needs, and she was the reason why he was able to be with his family for as long as he was. Taking care of her sick husband took a significant toll on her mind and body, but she stated many times that she would do it all over again without hesitation. That unselfish desire to put others above herself was her strongest trait and is what she will be most remembered for.

She is survived by her daughter, Sue Marcoux and husband, Rick, of Lewiston; her sons, Norm Marcotte and wife, Terri, of Sabattus, and Bob Marcotte and wife, Laurie, of Poland; her sister, Rejane Lajoie and husband, Larry, of Lewiston; her brother, Pat Vachon and wife, Deena, of Arvada, Colo.; her grandchildren, Jason, Danielle and Nicole Marcotte; her brother-in-law, Roland Marcotte; and sisters-in-law, Juliette Marcotte, Jackie Klooster and Peggy Marcotte; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Mike; her father and mother; and her brothers, Roger and Real.

Her family would like to thank Dr. Austin and the entire staff of Hospice House for the outstanding care and compassion that they gave her in the last days of her life. You people are all living angels to those who are lucky enough to be under your care.
