MEXICO — At the town office Saturday, the walk-in traffic was strong for Drug Take Back Day, Police Chief Roy Hodsdon said.

Hodsdon and members of the Mexico Police Explorers sat in the conference room as signs outside the town hall directed people inside to deposit their unwanted or expired drugs to a drop box.

Two of those people were Clemma Nichols of Rumford and her daughter, Heather Hodsdon.

“These are drugs I’m no longer taking, and I don’t want them in the house anymore,” Nichols said.

Dozens of law enforcement agencies across the state accepted unwanted or expired drugs Saturday, no questions asked.

It’s part of a national effort to dispose of the drugs safely and make sure they don’t make it into the hands of thieves or children.

If you missed this dropoff, don’t worry.

Hodsdon said his department also has a drop box at the police station at 15 Recreation Drive. Police also will pick up drugs if you call 364-5696.
