LEWISTON — A peace walk for a nuclear-free future is coming to Lewiston on Thursday, March 25.
About 30 walkers will arrive at Trinity Episcopal Church, 247 Bates St., in late afternoon. Community members are invited to a potluck supper at 6 p.m., downstairs in the Trinity Jubilee Center. The leaders will talk about the purpose of the walk and hold an open discussion following the meal. For more information, call Fr. Steve at 312-9410.
Community members are also invited to join the next leg of the walk as they leave Lewiston on Friday, March 26, walking to Bath. There will be drums and the chantings during the walk with the leader, the Rev. Gyoway Kato, Buddhist monk of the Nipponzan Myohoji order.
The walk will begin in Burlington, Vt., on Saturday, March 20. After leaving Maine, the walkers will head south and arrive in New York City in time for an international protest on May 2 that will demand the nuclear powers honor the United Nation’s Non-Proliferation Treaty that calls for nuclear disarmament.
