Pedestrian hit on Route 4 in Auburn severely injured


AUBURN – A pedestrian was struck by a car near the causeway on Route 4 Thursday night, and police said the injuries were severe.

Police called for a detective and a reconstruction team as they began an investigation into the 10 p.m. wreck near Lake Auburn.

The man who was struck, who was not identified late Thursday night, was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston and later moved to a Portland hospital.

Early reports were that the victim crashed through the windshield of the vehicle that struck him on the southbound side of the road.

Further details about the wreck were not available late Thursday night. A police officer directing traffic at the crash site did not allow a reporter near the scene. Police said information about the wreck would not be released until this morning.
