The People’s United Community Foundation, the philanthropic arm of People’s United Bank of Portland, made two substantial contributions to Auburn agencies recently.
Good Shepherd Food-Bank in Auburn was awarded $10,000 for its programming. The grant will support the Food Mobile Hunger Relief Program in the Lewiston-Auburn and Bangor regions. The program delivers food directly to those in need and supplements other food distributions by Good Shepherd Food-Bank to meet periodic demands beyond the capacities of area pantries.
According to Good Shepherd officials, the award will fund nine Food Mobile distribution events, delivering about 60,000 pounds of food directly to needy families in the area.
The foundation also awarded $5,000 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine. The clubs serve more than 2,700 members annually in Auburn, Portland and South Portland. The funding will support the organization’s Junior Staff Program, which provides approximately 60 teen and preteen members with job skills and work experience to prepare them for career success.
