Pet of the week

FARMINGTON – Rusty is a private surrender at the Franklin County Animal Shelter. His owner could no longer afford him and had said he was not worth the trouble.

Shelter staff said there he is no trouble at all. Rusty is a bit excitable, they said, and he needs some training, but he’s really a sweet dog at heart. He jumps up on people when he gets excited and plays a little bit rough sometimes.

He wouldn’t be suited to a home with small children, because he doesn’t know his strength and needs to learn some manners. With time, a little patience, discipline and lots of love, Rusty will be a great dog for most households.

Rusty does not get along with other male dogs but seems to be all right around females. He does appear to be housebroken and know some basic commands.

The cat Flavor of the Month is Licorice; all black cats have a lowered adoption fee of $35. For more information on Rusty or on adoption, call the shelter at 778-2638.

New dogs up for adoption include an American Stafford mix named Emmie, age 1 to 2 years; rotti/lab mix named Jack, 5; lab/shepherd mix named Spike, 9 months; spaniel/lab mix named Abby, 4; smooth collie named Petunia, 1 to 2; black shepherd mix named Nera, 6; and lab mix named TinkerBell, 2.
