1947 – 2014
KINGFIELD — Peter Lynn Davenport, 67, of Kingfield, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 6, at his home surrounded by his family after a battle with cancer.
He was born Aug. 2, 1947, to Stanton and Margaret Davenport. He grew up in Phillips and graduated from Phillips High School in 1966.
Peter was drafted into the Army in October 1966, where he served one tour in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1968.
He married Julia “Annie” Haines on June 7, 1969, in Phillips. They moved to Kingfield in 1971.
He worked for Knapp Brothers for nine years and then Jordan Excavation for 25 years. Peter finished out his trucking career with his son at J.R. Davenport Trucking.
He loved his camp on Hancock Pond, where he spent many happy years with his family, friends and a cold beer. There was never a winter that he wouldn’t tell us he likes it “sunny and 75.” He taught his sons his love for trucks, and he told stories of the past at family gatherings. He was so very proud of his sons for their hard work and having successful trucking companies.
Peter is survived by his wife of 45 years, Annie Davenport of Kingfield; two sons, Brent Davenport and wife, Misty, of New Portland and Barry Davenport and wife, Mikelle, of Freeman; and his three grandchildren, Jacey, Riley and Bode Davenport.
He was predeceased by his parents; and special aunt and uncle, Florence and Mahlon Beane.
