Philip L. Carey


TOGUS – Philip L. Carey, 86, of Surry Lane, Lewiston, died Friday, Jan. 26, at the Veterans Administration Hospital after a long illness.

He was born in Somerville, Mass., on Jan. 16, 1921, the son of William and Grace Monahan Carey.

He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and was the recipient of the Purple Heart.

Prior to his retirement he was employed at Bates College.

He is survived by his wife, Regina Saucier Carey; two daughters, Paula Boutin and husband, Robert, and Sherry Carey, all of Lewiston; a son, David Carey and wife, Elaine, of New Hampshire; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Donald Carey of Texas, and Paul Carey of Portland.

He was predeceased by a son, Dwight Carey.
