Phillips man faces charges in assault case

PHILLIPS – A Phillips man is accused of injuring a relative of a tenant he was trying to evict, Franklin County Sheriff’s Lt. Niles Yeaton said Thursday.

Joshua J. Bachelder, 33, was arrested Tuesday on charges of felony aggravated assault and burglary, Yeaton said. Bachelder was released the same day from the Franklin County jail on $1,000 cash bail. He is scheduled to appear April 23 in a Farmington court.

Bachelder reported to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department in Farmington that he assaulted someone, Yeaton said. Bachelder had gone to an apartment building he owns next to his house to try to evict a tenant, he said.

Later, a male relative of the tenant went to Bachelder’s house and confronted his wife while Bachelder wasn’t there. Bachelder was notified and went to the apartment, allegedly barged in and struck the man in the face, Yeaton said. The man had some cuts, was bleeding, complaining of blurred vision and was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington, he said.

Deputies Matt Brann and David Rackliffe investigated and arrested Bachelder, Yeaton said.
