AUGUSTA — Phyllis Evelyn Segars, 92, of Glenridge Rehab and Nursing Care, Augusta, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Friday, Feb. 24, after an extended illness.

She was born in Medford, Mass., on Aug. 28, 1919, to Philip N. Reid and Mildred F. (Prescott) Reid Plante. Phyllis graduated from Wakefield High School, Wakefield MA. with the class of 1938. She married Mark A. Newbegin on Sept. 8, 1939, and together they raised their family in Wakefield, Mass.

For a number of years, she knit baby hats, blankets and Christmas stockings for the newborn babies at Mercy Hospital in Portland. She had more than 700 hours in volunteer service with the Nifty Knitters. In her younger years she enjoyed ceramic classes, making a number of Christmas trees for her family. She also enjoyed making jewelry and working up macrame pieces.

Phyllis was married to Mark for over 52 years. Three years after his passing, Phyllis married Raymond Segars. They shared 11 companionable years together and were active members at the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Gray.
