Phyllis M. Allen


LEWISTON – Phyllis M. Allen, 82, a resident of Avenue Road, Wales, died July 11, at Central Maine Medical Center after a four day stay.

She was born July 20, 1924, in Lewiston, the daughter of Marshall and Edna Wallingford Yokell. She attended Holy Cross School and Lewiston High School.

On April 15, 1944 in Lewiston, she married Edwin Allen; he passed away on Aug. 8, 1997. She was a housewife and also worked as a med tech at Marcotte Home in Lewiston, retiring in 1987.

She enjoyed her grandchildren, cooking, crocheting. She crocheted a baby blanket for each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to sit by the ocean and looked forward to her birthday every year so she could go to Loon Mountain in New Hampshire with her daughters.

She was a member of WWW (We Women of Wales), the Wales Grange and was a communicant of Our Lady of the Rosary in Sabattus.

She is survived by five daughters, Sharon Burgess, and her husband, Paul, of Wales, Linda Hallatt, and her husband, Richard, of Wales, Dorothy Dunn, and her husband, Thomas, of Monmouth, Ann Logan of Lewiston and Edna Thomas of Wales; a son, Peter Allen, and his wife, Diane, of Wales; two sisters, Barbara Murray, and her husband, Paul, of Lewiston and Joan Willette, and her husband, William, of Wales; a brother, Francis Yokell of Franklin, Tenn.; 20 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was predeceased by her husband; two sisters, Pearl Gray and Sylvia Acheson; and four brothers, Marshall, Albert, George and Edward Yokell.
