Pianist to kick off Bates jazz series


LEWISTON – A quartet led by Portland pianist Tom Snow will open a new spring jazz series at Bates College with a concert at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 29, at the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall, 75 Russell St.

All at 8 p.m., the other three concerts in the Olin Arts Center Jazz Concert Series feature a trio headed by saxophonist David Wells Friday, May 5; music from an upcoming recording by composer and bassist Sam Sherry with his band Ursa Major May 19; and an evening of guitar-driven standards by the Ken Labrecque Quartet Saturday, May 20.

Director of the Bates College Jazz Band and a member of the music faculty, Snow will be joined by saxophonist Ralph Norris, bassist Marshall Wood and drummer Les Harris Jr.
