RANGELEY — The Pine Tree Academy Bell Ringers of Freeport will be in concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 5, at the Church of the Good Shepard on Main Street.
The bell ringers play five octaves of English hand bells (61 bells) and five octaves of chimes (61 chimes). The 11 young musicians in the group include students in grades seven through 12.
In past years, the group has performed throughout the United States, Canada, Bermuda and Iceland, as well as in many countries in South America and Europe. The group has played in a variety of venues such as the Maine State Capitol and Governor’s Mansion, the steps of the United States Capitol and the rotunda of the U. S. Senate, Radio City Music Hall, television, radio, shopping malls, schools, churches, service clubs, prisons, nursing homes and hospitals. The group has also played for heads of state.
Director Doris Krueger received her Master of Music degree in choral conducting from the University of Maine, has taught music at Pine Tree Academy and Atlantic Union College and has toured nationally and internationally with Pine Tree Academy and Atlantic Union College music ensembles. She trained what are thought to be the first hand bell choirs in Argentina, at River Plate University.
Admission to the concert is free, but donations will be accepted.
