Pirates tips Bruins, 4-2

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – Dustin Penner scored a goal and assisted on two as the Portland Pirates beat the Providence Bruins 4-2 on Friday night.

Jani Hurme, who was acquired from Atlanta by Anaheim on March 2, was spectacular in net for the Pirates, especially in the second period when Providence outshot Portland 13-5. He finished with 31 saves.

Ryan Shannon gave Portland a 1-0 lead when he scored on a one-timer after a pass from Zenon Konopka at 18:16 of the first period.

The Pirates increased their lead to 2-0 on Penner’s power-play goal at 3:48 of the second.

Providence’s Pascal Pelletier scored the first of this two goals at 15:05 of the second. But Portland countered 48 seconds later when Bruno St. Jacques blasted home a slap shot from the right point.

Portland’s Pierre Parenteau deflected in a shot by Aaron Rome at 1:56 of the third period.

Pelletier closed out the scoring with 1:08 left in regulation.
