Playoff roundup: Patriots hold down fort with 2-1


GRAY — Tom Cogswell and Eric Wilcox each scored two unassisted goals in the first half, giving No. 4 Gray-New Gloucester (8-5-2) a 2-1 victory over No. 5 Lincoln Academy (7-5-3) in a Class B boys’ soccer quarterfinal game Tuesday.

Wilcox’s goal came on a penalty kick.

Lincoln’s Sawyer Pinkham scored a first-half goal.

Waynflete 3, St. Dom’s 0

PORTLAND – Waynflete School won its fifth straight game and posted its fourth straight shutout in a 3-0 win over St. Dom’s Tuesday in a Western C boys’ soccer quarterfinal.

Harry Baker-Connick, Clancy Mitchell and Christian Kabongo all scored goals to lift the Flyers past the Saints.

The two former Western Maine Conference rivals were the fourth and fifth seeds in Western C. The Flyers (12-1-2) earned the home field with the higher seed. Baker-Connick put Waynflete on the board late in the first half on a feed from Abel Alemayo. Then Mitchell made it 2-0 late in the half.

The Flyers advance to this weekend’s semifinal at Maranacook, which blanked Sacopee Valley Tuesday, 3-0.

St. Dom’s season ends at 10-3-2.

Buckfield 5, Islesboro 0

BUCKFIELD — Jon Randolph scored two minutes in and the Bucks never looked back, scoring five goals on the day en route to a 5-0 victory over Islesboro on Tuesday.

Randolph added another goal to give the Bucks (12-3) a 4-0 lead at halftime. In between Randolph’s markers, Bryan Chabe scored on a corner kick from Jake Kraske and Islesboro (5-7-1) scored on themselves.

Kraske recorded his second assist of the match on a goal by Sidney Jackson in the second half.

Buckfield held a 34-3 edge in shots and a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks. Islesboro goalkeeper made 25 saves and Calvin Downey had four for the Bucks.
