LEWISTON – Lewiston High School Senior Marissa Iadevaia Jalbert was announced as the recipient of the annual Alfred A. Plourde Memorial Scholarship at a recent Lewiston City Council meeting.

The scholarship was established in 1990 to pay tribute to Mayor Alfred A. Plourde, who served in that capacity from 1984-87. His wife, Janice Plourde, participated in the scholarship presentation.

Guay said, “Mayor Plourde believed in Lewiston’s potential and particularly in the potential of youth. It was, therefore, very appropriate for a scholarship to be established in his name to assist young people and their aspirations for the future.”

Guay said that each year the scholarship is awarded to the college-bound Lewiston High School student who shows the most interest and promise in a career in public service.

Jalbert will study library science at Southern Connecticut State University and plans to pursue both a bachelor’s and master’s degree. Her goal is working as an administrator or supervisor in a public or school library in Lewiston.
