POLAND — A 27-year-old local man died when his car left the road and wrapped around a tree late Friday night, police said Saturday.
Paul St. Pierre was alone in the car at the time of the 10:38 p.m. accident on Bailey Hill Road, Lt. Glenn Holt of the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department said.
“He came over a hill with a corner right at the crest of the hill and started losing control there,” Holt said. St. Pierre’s vehicle, a 2005 Subaru Legacy, left the road, glanced off a tree, and “the little bit of snowbank there looks like it vaulted him. He actually went into a big hardwood tree and flipped around so the roof was headed toward the tree,” Holt said.
A nearby homeowner heard the crash and called police. Holt said St. Pierre died on impact. He lived on Cobb Road in Poland.
Maine State Police took measurements Friday night for a reconstruction of the crash. Local police were waiting Saturday for those results.
“We’re certainly suspecting speed was a factor,” Holt said.
According to friends, St. Pierre is survived by a wife and child.
