Poland outlasts Cape Softball


POLAND – Joe Douglass belted a solo home run in the second and hit a double to lead Poland to a 4-3 victory over Cape Elizabeth.

Jack Pelletier went the distance and gave up three runs on four hits with six strikeouts to earn his third win for the Knights (11-4).

Mike Kertes hit a pinch-hit solo home run in the top of then seventh for Cape Elizabeth. Catcher Kyle Dancause had two hits, including a double for the Capers (10-6).

St. Dom’s 14, Sacopee Valley 2

AUBURN – Peter Lewis cleared the bases in the third with a three-run triple to power St. Dom’s to a 14-2 victory over Sacopee Valley in varsity baseball action Monday afternoon.

Casey Parker and Richard Paradis had three hits apiece for the Saints (13-2). Andy Allen fired a one-hitter to earn his fifth win on the mound for St. Dom’s.

Catcher Tim Kingston hit a double the only hit for Sacopee Valley’s (3-13).

Fryeburg 4, Falmouth 2

FALMOUTH – Hannah Hill tossed a four-hitter and fanned eight to lead Fryeburg to a 4-2 softball victory over Falmouth.

Heather Tripp chipped in with two hits, two RBIs and scored a run for Fryeburg (9-7).

Katelyn Howland hit a two-run single to left field in the seventh for Falmouth’s only runs. Losing pitcher Elieen Brandes struck out nine.

Cape Elizabeth 4, Poland 2

POLAND – Cape Elizabeth scored all four of its runs in the sixth inning, highlighted Marla Houghton scored on a triple by Maureen Kertes, as the Capers defeated Poland 4-2 in softball action Monday.

Houghton finished with two hits, including an RBI single in the sixth, while Rachel Budcowitc also had two hits, including a double for the Capers. Jackie Moran scattered six hits and walked eight, but escaped trouble with nine strikeouts for Cape Elizabeth (14-2).

Cortney Clark hit an RBI single in the seventh and finished with two hits, while Toni Ritchie also had an RBI single for Poland. The Knights (7-8) left 12 runners on base.
