POLAND — Following the tradition of the “Compleat Works of Shakespeare, Abridged,” the Poland Players will present “All the Great Books, Abridged,” a show that takes 89 of the Bard’s works of literary canon and tries to communicate their essence in two acts.
Included in the parody are books typically assigned in high school, like “Huck Finn,” “Moby Dick” and “Walden,” that many students never got up the motivation to actually read.
The production was made famous by The Reduced Shakespeare Company of California, and played to packed houses in London before going on a worldwide tour.
The Poland Players will give their own spin on the show with madcap comedy, slapstick and verbal witticisms.
The show will be presented at 7 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, May 19-22, in the Dr. Robert Wall Theatre,. Tickets, $5, may be made by calling 998-5400, extension 218.
A word of caution: This play is not for the politically correct, the easily offended or the faint of heart.
